Laying Aside Every Weight and the Sin

If we want to make it to heaven, we must "lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us..."

"Beset": "to prevent or retard running" -Thayer's Greek Lexicon

The devil is a deceiver. He would like us to believe there is nothing wrong with the pleasures of sin that some enjoy."

"By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; choosing rather to suffer affliction ["to be ill treated in company with"*] with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;" - Hebrews 11:24-25 KJV [*Thayer's Greek Lexicon].

"Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us," - Hebrews 12:1 KJV

[Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us]
