"But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto
you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the
Father, he shall testify of me:" - John 15:26
"I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to
you." - John 14:18
Satan wants us to be judged by the Old Testament Law, which
brings death. (Romans 8:2, Galatians 5:1). He wants us to face justice for the
sins of our past. He does not want us to repent and be baptized in the name of
Jesus for the remission of sins because he does not want the blood of Jesus
that brings forgiveness to be applied to our lives. The Jews call him the Prosecutor.
We know him as the Accuser of the Brethren. He brings charges against the
brethren, accusing them of their past sins. (Revelation 1:5, 2 Corinthians
4:3-4, Ephesians 6:10-12).
"And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come
salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his
Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before
our God day and night." - Revelation 12:10
According to Thayer’s Greek Lexicon, one of the meanings of
“Comforter” is “Defense Attorney,” or “Counsel for Defense.” The meaning of
“comfortless” is “orphan.” It appears Jesus is saying, I will not leave you
defenseless: I will come to you. I am your Defense Attorney when Satan the
Prosecutor accuses you.
Our brethren - those that have obeyed the gospel by
repenting of their sins, had their sins forgiven by the blood of Jesus by
baptism in the name of Jesus, and have received the gift of the Holy Ghost -
Satan still accuses. He brings up the sins of our past and does not want to
recognize that the blood of Jesus has washed our sins away. (Isaiah 59:19,
Revelation 1:5, Acts 10:43, Hebrews 9:22, Acts 22:16, Acts 2:38).
Jesus defends us from the Prosecutor’s accusations. Jesus in
us as the Comforter, our Defense Attorney, "pleads the blood,"
reminding Satan that he has nothing to accuse us of: our sins are forgiven by
the blood of Jesus applied to our life!
