Jesus is our rock. The foundation is the gospel. When we obey the gospel of Jesus Christ, we build our lives on Him. When the storms of life come our way, they cannot shake us.

"And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:

"He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock."

"But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great." - Luke 6:46-49

What did Jesus tell His disciples?

"Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, and said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things."

"And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high." - Luke 24:45-49

Jesus’ disciples had already repented and been baptized in Jesus name. They then obeyed Jesus’ command, went to Jerusalem, and received the Holy Ghost – “power from on high” – on the Day of Pentecost.

It was on the Day of Pentecost that Peter preached repentance and remission of sins in Jesus name, just as Jesus said should be preached. Peter told how to obey the gospel, the foundation of our faith, building our lives on Jesus, the solid rock.

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call." - Acts 2:38-39

"And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers." - Acts 2:42

When we have prayed all the words we can think of, the Lord can pray through us in tongues as the Spirit of God speaks through us in languages we have not learned. The Lord can speak precisely what the person or situation needs and that only Jesus may know about.

"Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God." - Romans 8:26-27

"Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;" - Ephesians 6:18

"Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily." - Colossians 2:8-9 KJV

Paul prophetically warned the church of a tradition that would take the name of Jesus out of water baptism. This happened in 325AD at the Council of Nicaea. It is BY THE NAME OF JESUS that sins are remitted (removed)! No wonder the Dark Ages soon followed.

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call." - Acts 2:38-39 KJV

The LORD our God is one LORD – His name is Jesus. He is Spirit that robed Himself in flesh so He could redeem us back to Himself by shedding His blood. He is our shepherd.

"A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want." - Psalms 23:1

"Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him. He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young." - Isaiah 40:10-11

"Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood." - Acts 20:28

Jesus made us. He is our shepherd. He gave His life for us.

"Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture." - Psalms 100:3

"I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep." - John 10:11

"Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls." - 1 Peter 2:24-25

He is coming back for those that follow Him.

"And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away." - 1 Peter 5:4

"When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory." - Colossians 3:4

How shall we prepare for His coming?

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38

"For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call." - Acts 2:39

What is Rosh Hashanah?

"And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation. Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD." - Leviticus 23:23-25 KJV

In Hebrew, Rosh Hashanah means, "head of the year". It is the anniversary of the creation of Adam and Eve, a day of judgment, and coronation by the Jewish people proclaiming God King of the Universe.

This holy day is the day of the sounding of the shofar. The shofar is a ram's horn which is blown like a trumpet. (A ram is a male sheep.) The shofar represents the trumpet blast of a people’s coronation of their king. The sound of the shofar is also a call to repentance, for Rosh Hashanah is the anniversary of man’s first sin and his repentance, and is the first of the “Ten Days of Repentance” which end with Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.

The shofar (ram’s horn) is a reminder of the Binding of Isaac which also occurred on Rosh Hashanah, in which a ram took Isaac’s place as an offering to God. Isaac is like the people of God - a holy, living sacrifice, giving themselves in love in service to God. The Ram was a shadow of God providing Himself a substitute blood sacrifice, the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world – Jesus Christ (John 1:29). The shofar's call is like a love call...

One of the most important observances of this holiday is hearing the sounding of the shofar. A total of 100 blasts are heard over the course of the Rosh Hashanah services.

Rosh Hashanah began at sunset October 2, 2016 and ended at nightfall October 4, 2016. It will be the Jewish Year 5777.

We are saved by the gospel. The gospel is preached, we receive it, and we stand in it.

"Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;" - 1 Corinthians 15:1

We are saved by the gospel when we not only believe it, but also obey it.

"By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain." - 1 Corinthians 15:2

The gospel is that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day – the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.

"Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel ... For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" - 1 Corinthians 15:1, 3-4

How do we obey Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection?

We become dead to sin.

"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?" - Romans 6:1-2

We become dead to sin by turning our back on sin by repenting.

We are buried with Jesus by water baptism by immersion with the name of Jesus called over us.

We are resurrected with Jesus when we are baptized with His Spirit, the Holy Ghost, speaking in other tongues as God’s Spirit gives us the utterance (God changes our tongue/language).

"Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." - Romans 6:3-4

Jesus called this being born again of water and of the Spirit. This is necessary to enter God’s kingdom.

"Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." - John 3:5

When we believe the gospel AND we are water and Spirit baptized, we are saved; the gospel was not preached to us in vain.

"And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; in my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." - Mark 16:15-18

We have obeyed the gospel when we repent, are baptized in Jesus name for the remission of sins, and have received the gift of the Holy Ghost.

"And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; when he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed ) in that day." - 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10

On the day of Pentecost, Peter preached the gospel – the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.

"Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it." - Acts 2:23-24

"Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ." - Acts 2:36

Peter then preached how to obey the gospel.

"Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:37-38

Peter let them know that the gospel is for everyone.

"For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call." - Acts 2:39

Then those that believed the gospel and received the gospel obeyed the gospel.

"And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers." - Acts 2:40-42

Our Heavenly Father put on a body of flesh and blood in order to pay the price of our sins, which is death, for the wages of sin is death.

He defeated the devil and delivered us from the fear of dying.

"Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage." Hebrews 2:14-15

We are delivered from the fear if death when we obey the gospel. By obeying the gospel, we have the hope if eternal life. Peter preached how to obey the gospel:

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call." Acts 2:38-39

There is one God and His name is Jesus!
