When situations and people around us start going contrary,
causing conflict, finding fault, creating irritation, jealousy, doubt,
disappointment and distrust, this is the time to get our eyes off of the storm
and back focused on Jesus. He is faithful, constant, true, and steady. It is
through looking to Jesus and reaching out to Him that we find peace in the
midst of the storm. It is Jesus that keeps us from sinking into the depths of
turmoil, and raises us up to walk the walk with Him. We need to keep our focus
on Jesus, and not on those around us. And, we need to remember that this is
spiritual warfare.
"And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get
into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the
multitudes away. And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a
mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. But
the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed
with waves: for the wind was
contrary. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them,
walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they
were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But
straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not
afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto
thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the
ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus
stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst
thou doubt? And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. Then
they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God."
- Matthew 14:22-33 KJV
"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in
the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to
stand against the wiles of the devil. For
we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against
powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual
wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God,
that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to
stand." - Ephesians 6:10-13 KJV
"Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with
truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with
the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith,
wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And
take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of
God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and
watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;"
- Ephesians 6:14-18 KJV
