"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an
holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him
who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
“Which in time past were not a people, but are now the
people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy."
- 1 Peter 2:9-10 KJV
As Gentiles, we were not God’s people. Because of God’s
mercy, He called us out of the darkness of condemnation to make us His very own
possession (a peculiar people).
God did this for us by robing Himself in flesh and dying for
our sins on a cross that was fashioned from a tree. After He was buried, on the
third day He rose from the grave.
"Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from
all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good
works." - Titus 2:14 KJV
We answered His call, turning from sin wherein we were condemned.
We were baptized in His name Jesus, being justified by His blood, our sins
being remitted. We were filled with His Holy Ghost, being sanctified by His
Spirit, making us a holy nation.
"To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the
shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace." - Luke 1:79 KJV
We can praise God for what He has done for us, and show
others the goodness and love of God, for He brought us out of darkness into His
marvelous light. We are no longer separated from Him, walking in darkness, but
are now walking in peace with God, for we have been reconciled to Him by His
gospel.
"To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he
hath made us accepted in the beloved." - Ephesians 1:6 KJV
We were not His people, the beloved, but now are the people
of God, accepted in the beloved.
"I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine..." -
Song of Songs 6:3 KJV
"And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and
we shall reign on the earth." - Revelation 5:10 KJV
