"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the
world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all
that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the
pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth
away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for
ever." - 1 John 2:15-17
"Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious
appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for
us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a
peculiar people, zealous of good works." - Titus 2:13-14
We begin our journey by hearing and obeying the gospel. God
robed Himself in flesh and gave His life on a tree to redeem us from sin. He
was buried, and on third day, He rose again. (1Cor.15:1-4, Rom.10:14-16)
We obey the gospel by becoming dead to sin by repentance,
buried with Jesus by water baptism by immersion in the name of Jesus for the
remission of our sins, and resurrected to new life by the baptism of the Holy
Ghost, speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance. (Rom.6:1-13,
Col.2:11-12, Acts 2:4, Acts 10:44-48, Acts 19:1-6)
Peter preached the gospel on the Day of Pentecost. When
asked, “What shall we do?” Peter replied with how to obey the gospel.
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized
every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye
shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38
We turn from the world and are transformed by the name,
blood, and Spirit of Jesus when we obey the gospel.
"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of
God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God,
which is your reasonable service." - Romans 12:1
"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye
transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good,
and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." - Romans 12:2
"For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world:
and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith." - 1
John 5:4
