Jesus Gives Us Victory Over Death Through the Gospel

Our heavenly Father put on flesh and blood so that He could pay the price of death for our sins. This is how Jesus broke the power of the devil, taking away from him the power of death. We are no longer in bondage of fear of death, when we have obeyed the gospel.

"Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

“In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead [repentance, baptism in Jesus name, infilling of His Holy Ghost].

"And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened [made alive] together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; blotting out [wiping away] the handwriting of ordinances [judgments] that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; and having spoiled [disarmed] principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly [exposed them to disgrace], triumphing [celebrating His victory] over them in it." - Colossians 2:8-15

"Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood [we have human bodies], he also himself likewise took part of the same [He made Himself a human body]; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; and deliver them [us] who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage." - Hebrews 2:14-15

“But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:" - 2 Timothy 1:10

What is the gospel? It is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. We apply the gospel by death to our sinful nature by repentance, burial with Him by water baptism in Jesus name for the remission of our sins, and the infilling of His Spirit (with the sign of speaking in tongues by His Spirit) to live a new life in Jesus.

"But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you." - Romans 6:17

What is that doctrine? It is the gospel, first delivered on the Day of Pentecost.

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38

"Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls." - Acts 2:41

"But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." - Romans 6:22-23

"O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?  The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." - 1 Corinthians 15:55-57
