Part 2
Peter compared the account of Noah and the flood to water
baptism. When we are baptized in Jesus name, His blood is applied to our life
and our sins remitted. Our sins are buried, washed away by baptism in His name,
and we are reconciled back to Jesus.
Noah was to pitch the ark with pitch.
"Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make
in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch." - Genesis
6:14 KJV
We can see that the meaning of the word “pitch” – which is “covering”
in the natural – has spiritual meaning in our water baptism in Jesus name.
Strong’s definitions of this Hebrew word are: “a primitive
root; to cover (specifically with bitumen); figuratively, to expiate or condone,
to placate or cancel:—appease, make (an atonement, cleanse, disannul, forgive,
be merciful, pacify, pardon, purge (away), put off, (make)
reconcile(-liation).”
Here are verses that pertain to and our water baptism in
Jesus name and the spiritual meaning of pitch, according to Strong’s
definitions.
"And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in
your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled in the body of his flesh
through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his
sight: If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away
from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to
every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;"
- Colossians 1:21-23 KJV
The gospel by which we are reconciled to God was first
preached on the day of Pentecost.
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized
every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye
shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38 KJV
"Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead." - Colossians 2:12 KJV
"Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into
death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the
Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." - Romans 6:4 KJV
"And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and
wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord." - Acts 22:16 KJV
"To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world
unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto
us the word of reconciliation." - 2 Corinthians 5:19 KJV
