Justice and Mercy – part 13
When Adam and Eve received God’s justice and judgment for
their disobedience, they also received the promise of God’s mercy.
The LORD God said to the serpent,
"And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and
between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise
his heel." - Genesis 3:15 KJV
We find that the seed of the woman is Christ.
"But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent
forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law," - Galatians 4:4 KJV
While satan bruised His heel, Jesus gave a death blow to the
head of the serpent, the devil.
"Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh
and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death
he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; and
deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to
bondage." - Hebrews 2:14-15 KJV
Because Jesus paid the price of death for our sins, we can
be delivered from bondage to the devil and fear of death.
"Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was
against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to
his cross; and having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them
openly, triumphing over them in it." - Colossians 2:14-15 KJV
Jesus canceled the record of the charges against us and took
it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, He disarmed the spiritual
rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by His victory over them on the
cross. (NLT)
"O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy
victory? The sting of death is sin; and
the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the
victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." - 1 Corinthians 15:55-57 KJV
The devil, the accuser that accuses us of sin, no longer has
anything against us when we have repented of our sins, been baptized in Jesus
name for the remission of our sins, and are filled with the Holy Ghost. (Acts
2:38)
"But is now made manifest by the appearing of our
Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and
immortality to light through the gospel:" - 2 Timothy 1:10 KJV
"And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come
salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his
Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before
our God day and night. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by
the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the
death." - Revelation 12:10-11 KJV
Jesus told His disciples that His Spirit in them, the “Comforter,”
would be as a Defense Attorney against the devil. The devil is referred to by
the Jews as the “Prosecutor.” As the Bible says, he is the accuser of the
brethren. When satan comes against us, the power of the Holy Ghost testifies
that by our water baptism in Jesus name, the blood of Jesus has washed away all
our sins! Jesus pleads His blood! And the devil has nothing to accuse us of.
"Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in
his own blood," - Revelation 1:5 KJV
"But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto
you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the
Father, he shall testify of me:" - John 15:26 KJV
