"And when he had called the people unto him with his
disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny
himself, and take up his cross, and follow me." - Mark 8:34
We must deny our sinful desires and crucify the “lusts of
the flesh.”
"Teaching us that, denying ungodliness [turn from
godless living] and worldly lusts [sinful pleasures], we should live soberly,
righteously, and godly, in this present world [evil world];" - Titus 2:12
"Knowing this, that our old man [old sinful self] is
crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed [so that sin might
lose its power in our lives.], that henceforth we should not serve sin [We are
no longer slaves to sin]." - Romans 6:6
"And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with
the affections and lusts [crucified the passions and desires of their sinful
nature]." - Galatians 5:24
We then follow Jesus and are “buried” with Him.
"Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death..."
- Romans 6:4
Death and burial of our old sinful nature.
"Buried with him in baptism..." - Colossians 2:12
"For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ
have put on Christ." - Galatians 3:27
"But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not
provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof." - Romans 13:14
We then follow Jesus and are “resurrected” with Him.
"For if we have been planted together in the likeness
of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:" -
Romans 6:5
"…That like as Christ was raised up from the dead by
the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life."
- Romans 6:4
"…Wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith
of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead." - Colossians 2:12
"Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we
shall also live with him: ... Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead
indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord." -
Romans 6:8, 11
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized
every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye
shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38
"And hath raised us up together, and made us sit
together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:" - Ephesians 2:6 [For he
raised us from the dead with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly
realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.]
"By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to
be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; choosing rather to suffer affliction
with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; esteeming
the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had
respect unto the recompence of the reward." - Hebrews 11:24-26
