Thy kingdom come


 

We learn Jesus’ priorities by how He taught His disciples to pray. Jesus began by saying,

 

"After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." - Matthew 6:9-10 KJV

 

The beginning of His prayer is about His name, His kingdom, and His will. This is what should be our first concern.

 

The conclusion of the prayer is,

 

"For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen." - Matthew 6:13 KJV

 

The kingdoms of this world are temporary. The kingdom of God is an everlasting kingdom. (2 Peter 1:11). Our prayer for the kingdoms of this world is that the Lord's will be done. Our utmost prayer is that His kingdom come, His will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

 

When people enter the kingdom of God, they enter by repentance, taking on the name of Jesus that gives remission of sins at water baptism, and being filled with His Spirit to live a holy life. (John 3:5, Acts 2:38, Acts 10:43, Hebrews 12:14, Galatians 5:16).

 

We can see the change that comes when souls enter His kingdom.

 

"Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

 

“And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God." - 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 KJV

 

What this world needs is the kingdom of God. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
